ABOUT ANN LAWRENCE
Ann Lawrence has always loved textiles. Mentored by her Godmother, a milliner, she began sewing as a child. She graduated from making clothes for her dolls to making them for herself, then to designing and draping for her own business.
An early spell as an International Stewardess gave Ann the opportunity to begin amassing her considerable collection of lace, linens, ethnic textiles and garments. It came naturally to her to use her creativity to transform pieces from that collection into contemporary garments; in time her talent for fashion design led to a successful career as a designer of special occasion dresses on New York’s Seventh Avenue.
Eleven years ago Ann left New York and opened her design studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Antique linens and lace become tops, modern skirts, bridal wear, and unique pieces for the home. Tribal and ethnic textiles are transformed into quilted jackets, colorful pillows, and extraordinary bed coverings.
Her lifelong love of travel takes Ann to fascinating and exotic places around the world. She arrives home from her travels with armloads of exotic textiles and artifacts. The studio workroom becomes a beehive of activity as textiles and garments are cleaned, reconfigured, embellished, and given new life.
Friends and collectors alike make it a point to visit Ann’s studio whenever they visit Santa Fe, to explore an ever-changing array of fanciful clothing, home furnishings, precious antiques and collectibles.
